Jeremiah 8:7-9

7 “Even the stork in the heavens
Knows her appointed times;
And the turtledove, the swift, and the swallow
Observe the time of their coming.
But My people do not know the judgment of the LORD.
8 “How can you say, ‘We are wise,
And the law of the LORD is with us’?
Look, the false pen of the scribe certainly works falsehood.
9 The wise men are ashamed,
They are dismayed and taken.
Behold, they have rejected the word of the LORD;
So what wisdom do they have?
Jeremiah 8:7-9 NKJV

The created migrants know when to make their trips from one area of living to the next. When the correct time comes, they leave their home and go to their other home. Then, when the correct time rolls back around, they switch homes again. God compares us to these creatures. The time of God's judgment is here, but we do not know it. We continue to live our lives the way we want, doing what seems good to ourselves and thinking only of ourselves and how things affect us. We think we are wise and we say that we obey the law of God. Yet, like the young man of Matthew 19:16-22, we hold back the things of ourselves that are most important to us. We refuse to let God have all of us, we put something else before Him, and that becomes our god. When we are clearly presented through God's word that we are putting something in place of God and we refuse to surrender that thing to the control of God, then we, like Judah in the days of Jeremiah, are worshipping false gods. I can think I am so much better than the sinners of Jeremiah's day, but when I cherish something more than I love God, then I am doing exactly as they did and I will fall the same as they fell. I am so thankful that Jesus will release me from this bondage of perverse desires. Freedom is offered to me, I must accept it and glory in His love and forgiveness or my fate will be destruction in separation from God.
Wise men are ashamed in their wisdom, because despite how smart a person is, without the wisdom of God in our hearts, we are foolish. God gives us wisdom in His word, in His written word and in His natural word. The Spirit speaks His word to our hearts. If we reject His word, then what wisdom do we have? It is clear that we have no wisdom. We give up all that is good so that we can wallow in the filth of things that destroy us, all the while telling ourselves we are happy or that we cannot help doing things our own way. We turn to others to give us validation that the wickedness that we love so much is really goodness. God's word gives us the truth and shows us what true goodness and true love are. If we prefer to read the works of the false pens of scribes that write things that sooth our ears and justify our wrongness, then we have fallen for the falsehood that these agents of Satan create. God has given us His word to show us the correct way. We need Him to impart His word to us, and we need to open our hearts to accept His word, repent of our wrongness, and begin to walk on God's path that will lead to our happiness.

Lord,
Help me today to give up my foolishness and take the wisdom You offer to me. Help me to listen to Your words, and help me to look only to You for the knowledge of what is right. There are many things to distract me, help me to absorb the truth that You shower upon me today.
